Guess what, guys and gals! It’s the 400th page of Elf Blood ever produced! Woop! How fitting it is that I’m in the middle of improvement works during this milestone – I never want to stop making the comic better! And I’ve said this many times before, and I hope to continue saying it for years to come: You guys are what makes it all worthwhile. Knowing that you’re out there, reading this, week after week, month after month, year after year, it makes me feel brilliant that I know I’m entertaining you through my little stories!

Aloha! Welcome to some more tweaks and changes! In this edition you’ll find:
- A different color pallette, with actual consideration for what will look good: Characters will now be illustrated in lighter, more heavily saturated colors, while backgrounds and background characters will be illustrated in darker, less saturated colors. This should allow the characters to really pop out of the background. I’ve also tweaked some of the character colors a fair bit as well, but you can expect these to change until I’m REALLY happy with what I’ve done!
- Even MORE detailed backgrounds! Really helps give it a sense of scale and space, don’t you think?
- Added in a second degree of shading, to help add some real volume to the picture.
I’m pretty pleased with the results of this page, although I still think I’ve got a wee bit of tweaking here and there to get it looking juuuust right. Still, progress!
Right, before I leave you, remember that tomorrow my weight loss blog will be updated for the first time in a couple of weeks! Catch how I failed to stay in shape (but didn’t really overdo it all that much) on my weekly blog post, here!
Welp, back to the grind now, unfortunately! But I’ve got some big plans for 2014 – More details on Friday when I’ve done a wee bit more preparation!
As for Elf Blood, what I want to do is improve the artwork; To this effect, there might be a few noticeable changes over the next few weeks, and there may be a fair bit of inconsistency. Please bear with this, as it’ll settle eventually and will hopefully make the comic better! Feedback will be much appreciated during this period, so let me know what you think! I’ll be sure to list the specific changes I’ve made each week, so it’ll be fairly obvious what it is I’d like comments and crits on.
Aloha everybody, and welcome to 2014! Hope you’ve had a wonderful festive season, and that you’re pumped and ready to go for this year!
I’m making some resolutions myself. I don’t usually do that sort of thing, but this year, I feel changes a-comin’, and I think I can commit to improving myself and my lot in life! I’ve already made a good start by completing the synopsis for my Black Cloak script… No excuse to not send it, now!
So let’s go kick some ass in 2014 together! Awesomeness abounds, and is just waiting for us to seize it!
As I’m not massively busy over the Christmas/New Year period, I thought I’d catch up on some other scripting work I should be getting on with. One of these tasks involves writing a long-overdue synopsis for the first comic script I’m seriously considering posting to publishers.
Writing synopses is HARD! I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again; Boiling down your story to its bare essence, while still rendering it with the flair and flavour required to attract readers, is a skill unto itself. Although I suppose if I’m intent on becoming a writer, ’tis a skill I’ll have to master!
Holiday aloha, everybody! I hope that you’ve had a lovely time with your friends and family so far, and that you’ve had a most enjoyable Christmas season! I know that I have, and it’s wonderful to catch up with folk I only rarely see.
Anyhoo, the countdown to the New Year begins now! Anyone got anything spectacular planned?
All the best!
M.
Greetings, everyone! It’s the first page proper of the Child arc! After the wonderful break away from Elf Blood that illustrating Mei Wu offered, I’m having a blast drawing Elf Blood again!
I’d also like to point out a new anti-spam measure I’ve had to implement. Unfortunately, my connection to the Akismet servers is getting really shaky as of recent, so I’ve had to limit the comments a bit.
Now, I don’t want to use reCaptcha; I feel it makes commenting less fluid for you guys. But, since the spam is targetting old posts, all posts older than 30 days will be locked for comment. I don’t think it’ll present too much of an issue, and the questions page etc.will still remain open for comment!
And it begins! Well, the cover anyway. And quite fitting it is, too, that The Child arc should begin around Christmastime!
Also quite fitting is that Sega have released a 3DS version of Streets of Rage, which this arc pays homage to. Well, that and many other brawlers along the way. You’ll see 😀
Best of all, I think, is that this time around we get to know JN a bit better. JN was conceived as little more than dumb muscle, and we’ve never really had the opportunity to experience his personality much, nor has he had much in the way of backstory or history. This arc, while we won’t be seeing a whole lot of said backstory, we WILL be seeing a lot more of him and his motivations!
As I’ve stayed up WAY too late again trying to get stuff finished, instead of trying to hammer out a sensible article, I’m just going to list a few of the things I’m looking forward to most about this Christmas!
And thus, book one of Mei Wu draws to a close! I hope you guys’ve had fun reading it, it’s definitely done me a heck of a lot of good to draw something a little bit different for a while. I’ve started illustrating the next Elf Blood arc already, and I can definitely feel the benefit of the changeup!
The next steps for Mei Wu are to provide additional artwork for the print version, and make a number of corrections to the artwork. However, as a thank you to you guys for letting me take this little detour, the next page will be an Elf Blood-exclusive Mei Wu extra! Normal Elf Blood service will resume after that!
