Have you ever wondered if you’ve screwed up your career path? Like, say for example you were working somewhere that you loved initially, and then circumstances changed, and the job got so unsatisfying that you had to find a new job. And the new job sounded like a really good deal, a chance to exercise your skills, to help your new company find success in a new arena, to sharpen your business mindset. And the job was really good to begin with, and you had amazing colleagues with some really interesting work. But then you found yourself doing less and less of the tasks you were interested in, and more and more of the things you had hoped to leave behind in your old job. You couldn’t step back. You couldn’t take stock. You started getting worried. You started getting nervous. You stopped loving work and started fearing going in, because you felt that every victory was met with five more crises that you had no control over. So you start looking for jobs again. But everything you see advertised you play over and over in your head, reading up on the companies and realising that they’ll be just as corporate and restrictive as any of the roles you’ve worked before. You realise that you’re not suited for working in an office, in a corporation, in the modern world. You begin to worry that you’ll never be able to move on, either by lack of opportunity or fear of letting your colleagues down.

Blargh urgh ecccch, and other zombie noises. I feel eternally tired these days, which is making it harder to keep up with ye olde workload, both in the dayjob and in my own artwork – especially now as I’m ramping up to begin submitting writing to competitions and whatnot. Even my weekends aren’t available for sleep catchup – I’ve just got too much to do!
I think I’ve genuinely forgotten what it’s like to have a regular weekend off. Still, it’ll all be worth it in the end, I hope!
Hello all, another brief blog post today I’m afraid – I’ve been fighting off a cold, and I’m absolutely shattered now. Probably should head to bed now so I can wake up all refreshed for work (and so that I don’t fall asleep when I do my Monday evening writing in the café after work).
Toodlepip everyone, have a great week! Also, congratulations to the US for legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, I’ve been tearing up every time I see a photo of an older couple get married because finally they can 🙂 Be proud, dear friends, be proud!
Hullo everybody, hope you’ve all had a great week and are looking forward to an even better weekend! I know I’ve been looking forward to it all week – I’m heading to see Jurassic World tomorrow with an old uni pal, but tonight I’ll be learning new recipes.
Indian cooking isn’t something I normally do; generally, I’m in a rush to have my dinner and crack on with the drawing load for the day, so I usually go for quick and simple Chinese or Chinese-style food, but Fridays are a welcome exception. Today, I’m going to try making my very first curry! I’ll be attempting a Chicken Saag curry. Separately, I’ll also be trying to make my own masala rub. Rishi’s, my new favourite Indian restaurant, does this amazing lamb chop platter which has just the greatest flabour you’ve ever tasted. This will be my attempt to recapture that dish, and hopefully set me down the path of creating more curries and whatnot!
Wow, it’s been a whole year since I packed my bags and moved back to Glasgow from Manchester! Do I miss the place? I will admit, yeah, there are definitely bits of Manchester I will always have a fondness for. Friday afternoons down the Woodstock. Strolls around the Museum of Science and Industry. Meeting up with Jon to discuss and compare writing. The Monday Night writing group.
But I’ve gotta say, twelve months on, and I don’t regret one minute of my move. I love Glasgow, and the novelty still hasn’t worn off. Nothing can accurately capture my feelings, as I sit on the top deck of the X23, speeding along the M8, watching the towers of the finance district rise in the the distance, with miles of red sandstone all around and the rugged hills in the distance. The sparkle of the Clyde thundering strongly underneath, and the network of bridges crossing her downstream. Nothing matches the journey on the underground – Sure, it’s a circle and it only goes two ways, but it’s a good place to be, an easy way around the city, jam-packed with all sorts of fascinating people, good people. And then getting out in Kelvinside, wandering around the Kelvingrove Museum (well worth a visit if you ever drop by), exploring the wee shops and restaurants and cafés all over the West End – especially Ashton and Creswell Lanes – and hiding from the cold in the Botanical Gardens.
Hullo everyone, just a wee quick post (seeing as I’m pre-loading this at half past one in the morning and have work in a few hours’ time) to wish all my Muslim pals the very best for Ramadan. Especially seeing as it’s summer, with the longest possible daylight hours. I shall try my best not to tempt you with delicious food!
Anyway, toodlepip for now guys! More Elf Blood on Monday (also, my fridge gets delivered this weekend, hooray! No more buying stuff as I need it!)

Ahoy hoy folks! Hope you’re all doing well – This isn’t a holdover because I’m still being lazy by the way, this was a genuinely scheduled Extra page to break up the previous block of story from the next, final block 😛 Hope you’re getting excited for the Mei Wu comic coming after this! I know I am, we get to meet a couple of bona-fide badasses in it 😀
Anyway, as I’ve now moved into my own house and am settling in quite nicely (although my credit card is getting a severe amount of exercise getting all my appliances and whatnot), I thought I’d better start losing weight again. Remember when I was running Slimblog? Well, I’m basically approaching it the same way – eat a smaller amount of a balanced diet, just over 1000 calories a day, do half an hour’s exercise Monday-Thursday, drink plenty of water, and let myself indulge a little on Fridays (on the basis that the human stomach can only hold so much).
Hullo everyone, running a bit late over here, so I’ll keep this to a brief tribute to Christopher Lee. An imposing presence, a fantastic actor, and a genuine professioanl, he was by all accounts a lovely and dedicated man. Cinema, stage, and humanity in general feels the loss as another bright-burning star rejoins the heavens.
Rest In Peace, Sir Christopher. You have inspired so many generations, and have become so ingrained in our shared cultural experience. Though your body may have committed itself to the soil, your legend will persist down the years.
Hey gang! Sorry for this additional ‘Extra’ piece here, moving into the new place was just a little more exhausting than I’d figured it would be (because I’m an idiot and forgot the last two times I moved house). Normal service WILL resume this Friday, fear not, but please enjoy this drawing I did while loafing about in Central Park during my holiday to New York! The building I was drawing is just a couple of buildings down from the Dakota Building, made depressingly famous as the place where John Lennon was murdered. The reason I chose to draw this was largely because it was there as I sat down beside one of Central Park’s many ponds and lakes, and it provided an interesting challenge for me.
Heyo, I’m actually back in the country now (I hope, anyway), but I need some time to summon up Monday’s page, especially as I’m actually moving house tomorrow! Yes, into my own place, which is actually just down the road from my folks’ house. Close enough, but far enough away! I’m really excited about it.
Anyway, today’s page is a little taste of the artwork for Bonnie Words. It’s a simpler style when compared to Elf Blood, but I think it stands out more for having its own uniqueness.
