Hullo folks, just a quick post today – I’m afraid I’ve been ground down a fair bit this evening with politics and people scoring cheap shots. Between the looming possibility of President Trump and the constant siege Scottish pro-independence supporters seem to be under from the government and the media… It amazes me how we have survived as a species when we have shown ourselves to be so resistant to change, so unprogressive, so utterly tribal, greedy, and vile a species. The ratio of times I am impressed with our achievements versus times I wish we had a reset button keeps on getting smaller and more depressing.
Happy Burns Night, a’body, and fair fa’ yer honest sonsie faces! Stuff yourselves with haggis, enjoy a dram or twa, and most important of all, spend a rowdy, raucous time with those nearest and dearest to you in the company of the songs and poetry of Ayrshire’s favourite son, Rabbie Burns! I know I will be!

I promised you a couple of articles – one silly, and one a bit more serious. This is the silly one.
After much study and academic thought, I hereby declare Friendship is Magic’s Princess Luna as Best Pony. Why, you ask? Because she strikes an almost perfect balance between being impressive and insecure.
I mean, yes, she is a living goddess who could enslave all of Equestria to do her bidding – but she doesn’t exercise that in the present. Rather, the time in the past when she reigned as a dark queen was marked as the result of jealousy and an ill-deserved sense of inferiority. And who hasn’t been in the position where they have done something they regret because they felt they were being neglected or underappreciated?
Ahoy thar maties, it’s been a busy weekend – despite my body’s attempts to be ill – so I’ll keep this brief! I’ve got a couple of more in-depth articles planned, which I’m actually going to have to spend some time on, but I hope you’ll enjoy them both; Even though one’s definitely a bit sillier than the other.
While we wait for the essay tree to bear its fruit, however, I offer you this – in cooperation with a colleague, I have constructed a new cocktail that is just bursting with complex flavours:
Lemmy. Bowie. Rickman.
Turning out to be a horrendous year already, isn’t it? 🙁
There is absolutely zero chance these guys will be forgotten, however – they have contributed so much to the living spirit of humanity, to the very soul of life that is Art. Though the original candle of their light has been snuffed out (too soon, I feel), the roaring fires they have set in a million hearts cannot be so easuly extinguished.
Shine on in the heavens, in our memories, and in our music players and screens good sirs. And thank you, thank you so much for everything.
Joy unbound! Gotham starts back on UK television tonight! Nevermind the fact that it’s been resumed in the US for… What, almost half a year now? But it’ll fit my Mondays nice enough; University Challenge at 8, Only Connect at half 8, and now Gotham. Just as well I don’t need to do any heavy lifting on artwork on Mondays, though I might squeeze in a bit of writing nonetheless – I’ve got a good story about a train journey through a wintery German forest that needs an ending…
Welp, by hook or by crook we all somehow made it through the first week back at work. Kudos, everyone! I’m sure I’ve already undone all the good work I did during the holidays getting back into a normal sleeping pattern… C’est la vie if you’re a part-time creator, I guess!
Anyway, have a great weekend, everyone, and I’ll catch you all again on Monday! Toodleoo!

Hullo everybody! Welp, that’s the festive season over and done with for another year. Time for me to start looking forward to summer now, and plotting barbecues and trips away and the like.
What I’ll also be doing is realigning my creative workstream with my work regime, now that things are settling down a bit. I did enjoy my little post-work writing sessions in the cafe, and I’d love to get back to doing that. Especially as I picked up a short story I’d first-drafted in the cafe a good long while back. I’d forgotten just how poignant the ending was (if I do say so myself).
Happy New Year, everybody! I hope you’ve had a great 2015 – even if the world is falling down around us politically and socially – and you’re going to join me this year in a full-on effort to make it a less terrifying and horrible place!
I’m not a person who does resolutions, but I do have goals this year. Goal 1: Propel myself into publishing through comics and short story writing. Goal 2: Whip a crew into line for theatre hi-jinks. Goal 3: Lose some weight. Goal 4: Quit wasting my eHarmony subscription and get back on ye olde horse again.
