Forgot to wish you all a happy new year on Monday, so I’m doing it now! Ngoh di pang yau, gung hei faat choi! The reason why I sort of let it slip on Monday is that in Manchester, the focus (as a community) tends to be on the Sunday after New Year. There’s a big festival in Chinatown and it is quite awesome, especially coming from Glasgow where we didn’t seem to have anything like that (although having said that, I did get to spend New Year with my family).

I was quite jealous of one of my friends, who got to spend New Year in Hong Kong, a pleasure I have not entertained since I was very young indeed; I’d love to go back for a big holiday like that. Hell, I’d love to go back to work there (There’s only so much winter one person can take!)

Back in the world of comicking, I’ve been doing some research on printing costs for two projects: Memecasters, which will be released soon, and Lemon Candies, which will be released (hopefully, and you’ll see why in a bit) later this year. I knew printing wasn’t going to be particularly cheap, but still, when you actually sit down, do the math and see the quote in black and white before you, it really hits you: Publishing is an EXPENSIVE business. For fifty A4 booklets, 32 pages full-color, which is Memecasters, I’ll be hit for £170 (~$265). Pricey, but manageable on my salary. Lemon Candies, on the other hand… 50 pages full-color, perfect bound to make a proper book? OVER £400 ($600)!!!

It may be the case that I’ll have to look to Kickstarter or IndieGoGo to raise the funding for that. However, this also offers me the chance to do some really fun things to use as perks for donating to the cause! But that’s a little ways off yet; Plenty of work to be done in the meantime!

Anyways, time to hit the hay. Half a day’s work, then I can go and be a creator for the weekend. And eat a metric asston of Chinese food. I love being mixed race, I have two cultures to be proud of 😀
