A little short story
Hullo everybody!
So, yesterday I wandered along at the behest of a friend to try out another writers group. Unlike my main weekly group, where you bring along things that you’re working on and have them evaluated, this workshop was more along the lines of getting you thinking creatively, and giving you the opportunity to write. I wrote four shorts today, and bar any important news breaking, I’ll be parcelling them out here! So, here goes!
— Story prompt: A character has to gain self-esteem for finally doing ‘it’.

Giles reflected on the glinting knife in his hand. Nevously, he licked his dry lips and cleared his throat, stalling for as much time as he could. He couldn’t do this. Despite all his blustering boasting and bragging earlier, he still felt the dull ache of fear weighing down his stomach.
“What are you waiting for, boy? Finish the job!”
Giles kept his eyes fixed on his already half-battered victim-to-be. All he had to do was end the pain, deliver the coup de grace.
“Well? You gonna do it, or ain’t ya, boy?”
Giles felt anger flush his cheeks and steady his ar. He thrust the knife home with brutal, unrelenting force. The soft flesh yielded easily under the cold, tempered steel.
“I’m not a boy!” he cried, “Today… I am a man!”
Giles’ father blinked at his boy, who had inexplicably stood up in the rowboat, holding the minnow aloft like a tiny fishy trophy.
“That’s very good, son, but next time could you put the fish guts in the bucket and not on your lap?”
