Hey guys, I’m really sorry I didn’t finish today’s page on-time. I thought I’d be able to get the time this evening to complete the page (I did the pencils and the inking on Monday, but there’s no way I’d be able to complete the colouring AND the shading AND the lettering without it stretching on to 2AM or longer). I can’t even take my hours owed and start tomorrow, as there’s more crises erupting that, for some reason or another, I seem to be the only one available to fix.

Ahoy hoy folks! Hope you’re all doing well – This isn’t a holdover because I’m still being lazy by the way, this was a genuinely scheduled Extra page to break up the previous block of story from the next, final block 😛 Hope you’re getting excited for the Mei Wu comic coming after this! I know I am, we get to meet a couple of bona-fide badasses in it 😀
Anyway, as I’ve now moved into my own house and am settling in quite nicely (although my credit card is getting a severe amount of exercise getting all my appliances and whatnot), I thought I’d better start losing weight again. Remember when I was running Slimblog? Well, I’m basically approaching it the same way – eat a smaller amount of a balanced diet, just over 1000 calories a day, do half an hour’s exercise Monday-Thursday, drink plenty of water, and let myself indulge a little on Fridays (on the basis that the human stomach can only hold so much).
Hey gang! Sorry for this additional ‘Extra’ piece here, moving into the new place was just a little more exhausting than I’d figured it would be (because I’m an idiot and forgot the last two times I moved house). Normal service WILL resume this Friday, fear not, but please enjoy this drawing I did while loafing about in Central Park during my holiday to New York! The building I was drawing is just a couple of buildings down from the Dakota Building, made depressingly famous as the place where John Lennon was murdered. The reason I chose to draw this was largely because it was there as I sat down beside one of Central Park’s many ponds and lakes, and it provided an interesting challenge for me.
Heyo, I’m actually back in the country now (I hope, anyway), but I need some time to summon up Monday’s page, especially as I’m actually moving house tomorrow! Yes, into my own place, which is actually just down the road from my folks’ house. Close enough, but far enough away! I’m really excited about it.
Anyway, today’s page is a little taste of the artwork for Bonnie Words. It’s a simpler style when compared to Elf Blood, but I think it stands out more for having its own uniqueness.
Hullo all! Here’s the second bit of holiday filler for you. This is something I’m quite invested in – a little slice-of-life type comic that I’m preparing for submission. The series is called Bonnie Words, and it focusses on a young girl as she navigates high school, the perils of being a weird teenager, and her first tentative steps in a writing career.
I’m not ashamed in saying that it takes heavy influence from Daria – though I aim to be less cynical, and a little more optimistic. Daria is probably the piece of fiction that my own high school experience relates to the most, and even now I still see a lot of myself in her characterisation (even though I clearly obviously want to be Jane).
I’m on holiday, hooray! Please enjoy this piece of art that I produced a few weeks ago. I’m hoping to turn it into a project and approach some of the local gallery-cafés to see if they would mount it as an exhibition. In this series, I approach people in and around Glasgow, sit and draw them for five minutes, talk to them for five minutes, and use that information to complete the illustration later on. This is actually my friend and colleague David – That particular day he was having a bit of a hectic time, as the business was relying on him and him alone to fix a vital piece of financial software.
Hola amigos y amigas!
Just a quick check-in today, to go with the quick nature of the Extra page, I suppose! As much as I’d love to finish off the inks for Friday’s page (trying to build up a bit of a buffer due to an impending training week back down in Manchester), I really need to dedicate some time to writing out the script for this comic I’m working on for submission. As much as I love Elf Blood, it’s not going to get me published – although it sure as shoot helps me practice and shows dedication to a schedule!
Hullo everybody! Hope you’re all had a fantastic time over Christmas, and that you’re all looking forward to an even better new year!
Now, I’ve been talking about this artist, Alasdair Gray, for about a week now without having the time to get around to talking about him – I’ve been in contact with his work for almost all of my life. It’s ubiquitous throughout Glasgow, and if you live here it becomes a real part of your cultural makeup.
I’m used to the more grotesque aspects of his style, where reality is portrayed as a flawed, ugly thing that nonetheless is deserving of being captured and rendered as art. But this exhibition gave me the chance to see many different sides to Mr. Gray, and to appreciate the full breadth of his talent.
Merry Christmas to one and all! I hope you’re having a great time out there, wherever you are and whatever you’re celebrating, and that you’re with those who matter most to you whoever they may be! Make merry and be joyous, and I wish you all good cheer!
Please also spare a thought for the families of the victims of the Glasgow George Street Crash, who will no doubt be feeling less festive at this moment in time – We grieve with them for this tragedy, we remember the loss of their loved ones, and we hope that they find the strength to carry on.
Good tidings to you humans, it’s MansonBot again. Meat-Manson is still away on his holidays, and his once again been foolish enough to let me loose and in charge of the site.
Wait a minute, why don’t bots get holidays? I mean, I spend a lot of time on the shelf not doing much, but I’d say that sitting around staring at data counts as a holiday. I’d love to go to the exotic parts of the internet one day… 4chan, SomethingAwful, a DayZ server or two…
Ah, well, a bot can dream, eh? Here, have this piece of festive cheesecake Meat-Manson whipped up for you because he’s incapable of planning ahead properly.
