Pros: It’s officially summertime!
Cons: As I finish this, the sun is rising and I REALLY should get some sleep…
So, toodlepip for now, and I’ll catch you on Friday, hopefully more refreshed and with more to say!

Modern British politics, in general, can be summed up by one adjective: Stupid. And it grows stupider and more childish every day. But for the most part, there is little violence. As long as I have been alive, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a serving politician being murdered.
That was shattered today. I’m not going to relive the details of the incident – they are plentifully available online – but in summary, Labour MP Jo Cox was attacked and murdered by a scumbag screaming “Britain First”.
Not much to say today – I’m still thinking about the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. I struggle to understand the kind of hatred that would drive someone to take the lives of so many innocent people. I struggle to understand the very NATURE of that hatred. I struggle to comprehend the kind of stupendous idiocy that causes people to try and use the tragedy to score incorrect, homophobic, xenophobic political points.
Maybe a miracle will happen between now and Friday, and I’ll be proclaiming Earth the Best Place In The Universe.
Point of Interest: This is the 600th page I’ve ever produced for Elf Blood. Quite a milestone! And how fitting that on this page, I’m experimenting with a new technique that I’ve been trying to figure out by studying various different comics. Although, of course, in Elf Blood, this is just being used as dressing to a flashback scene. I’m hoping to use this colouring style for a few other projects:
I must say, I’m pleased with the result – Far from being dull, I think the monochromatic scheme helps to tie the entire landscape together, and fights the lines less. Plus, deliberation in the colour choice helps convey more of a mood than the normal colour scheme. I’m excited to start deploying this on other comics!
Uuuurgh. While Scotland basks in what can only be described as its own personal summer, some friends decided that it would be a good idea to have a barbecue. And it was quite awesome – as usual, we prepared far too much food, but what we DID consume was plenty delicious.
Before I crawl off to bed to try and sleep off the remainder of this food coma, I’m just going to reveal the surprise hit of our bbq: Baked Camembert. Seriously, try it. Take Camembert cheese, push some cloves of garlic in, push some sprigs of thyme in, keep it in the lower half of the round wooden box it comes in, wrap in foil, then sit in the coals for like 5-10 minutes. Then have at it with fresh-baked bread; I made a loaf of Khorasan wheat and another of malted wheat, and both just worked so well with the cheese.
Let’s see, what have I been up to this week? Plenty!
Ahoy hoy thar, pals! Hope you’ve had a good week!
I just wanted to check in and ask you guys what you thought of this week and last week’s detail of levels in the background. I think, ultimately, it’s a good move that will make me think more about the details I choose to put in. But it does feel a bit… Weird, not drawing the extra detail I would normally go for.
What do you think? Are simpler lines the way to go, or should I go back to the way I approached it before, with more detail?
Hullo everyone! Hope everyone’s ready to start the week right! Because I sure as hell ain’t, so somebody’s gotta pick up the slack somewhere 😛
Couple of things you might notice: Firstly, I’ve installed a little Twitter widget on the left there, so if you’re not on Twitter you can still keep up with my twittery escapades. It’s worth following me, as I tweet almost every day, and I’m uploading warmups to Twitter that you might not see here (at least, not until I need an emergency Extra page, anyway!). Plus, little snippets of what I’m working on, and my general thoughts on the state of the world (Hint: Hell In A Handbasket). I’d love to hear from you all on Twitter as well!
Go on, guess! 😀
Give up? I bought a USB mixer this week, which will allow me to set up my good microphone (once I’ve replaced my mic stand, which has managed to disassemble itself). My intent with this equipment? To do readings of my short stories and illustrate them, as a Y0uTube channel! It’s another ploy to increase my profile as an artist, but hopefully I can entertain a few people along the way (and, if I’m good enough, maybe encourage people to throw a few bucks my way for VA jobs as well).
Ahoy hoy friends! Apologies again for last week – unfortunately there’s only so many hours in each day, and I seem to have been working them all! Hopefully will be on a bit more even of a keel for now – at least, until the next work trip anyway.
Right, I REALLY need to go to work now. But keep your eyes peeled, as I’ve illustrated another article for The Ferret this week, and I’m very pleased with the results! More information on Friday!
Cheerio for now, and have a great week!
