One thing that concerns me about general public discourse over the Scottish Independence Referendum is the repeated insistence that somehow Independence is First Minister Alex Salmond’s vanity project. It’s not difficult to find evidence of this; Seriously, try it. Go onto twitter and search for ‘Alex Salmond’. How many tweets did you find insinuating that he only wants his name in the history books, or that he is forcing his own vision upon Britain, or that it’s all going to be his fault?

Wai, dim-a?
As anyone who’s read any of the comic for any length of time probably knows, I’m slowly picking up bits and pieces of Cantonese to be able to converse whenever I take visits back to Hong Kong. However, I’ve never had formal lessons, nor have I ever learned from family. Since I have no natural talent for languages, this has set me back in my acquisition of fluency, somewhat.
Imagine how thrilled I was when a friend pointed me towards the Fluent Forever kickstarter. I just received my book, and even though I’m only a little bit into the learning it offers, I’m already picking up useful notes on how to get the learning to stick.
Now, I’m not sure how much the major news item in the UK seeps out into the world at large, but in a few weeks’ time one of the most important days in our political history will come to pass. It is the referendum on independence for Scotland, wherein the Scottish people choose whether or not to remain as a constituent part of the United Kingdom, or to strike out on its own as an autonomous nation for the first time in three centuries.
You’ll probably see me mentioning this a few times in the run-up; I’m a Yes voter, convinced of the opportunities offered by seceding from the union. However, in this post, I want to address an overarching topic before going on later to my arguments as to voting Yes.
Hullo all, it’s just after 2 AM and I’ve just finished today’s page, so do forgive me for now writing a full blog post, seeing as how I need to be up in about 5 hours!
Catch you all on Friday with a more detailed post, hopefully.

This week, the world wept as one of the greatest entertainers of our time was taken from us far too soon. Robin Williams was a great man, a fantastic comic actor- Hell, a great actor all-round. He was the personification of fun, the party incarnate. Everywhere he went, everything he appeared in, he injected raw, chaotic, passionate energy into.
Underneath this effervescent exterior, however, lay the dark recesses of depression and dependence. Robin Williams had struggled with the black dog for a very long time, and it finally overwhelmed him this week.
It’s the start of a brand new Mei Wu! Woop!
I’m incredibly excited about it, because it’s a breath of fresh air for me. Plus, I’m drawing on the artwork improvements I developed over the last arc of Elf Blood and combining it with an improved approach to story and script writing to make this the best darned comic EVAR!
In contrast to the last Elf Blood arc’s action-packed offerings, this book of Mei Wu is a little slower and more ponderous, but interesting and exciting nonetheless! We get to meet a new character, and we also find out a little bit more about the nature of the mysterious Gau Mei Wu.
So, on Tuesday night I went to see Marvel’s latest cinematic offering, Guardians of the Galaxy. I wasn’t actually sure what to expect from the film; I mean, I consider myself reasonably well-versed in much of the Marvel universe, but I had never heard of this franchise before.
‘Eh,’ I thought, ‘I enjoyed all the other Marvel films I’ve watched. Why not give this oneĀ a go? Everyone’s saying good things about it.
Oh how glad I am that I saw it. It. Is. PHENOMENAL. A slightly sluggish start notwithstanding, it is an action-packed and HILARIOUS adventure across space. It really puts a sense of subversive joy back into science-fiction, a lovely roguey grime that few modern films have. The writing was spot-on, every performance was fantastic, and the CGI (while pretty much everywhere) was outstanding.
And thus ends The Child story arc!
Hopefully you enjoyed it – it was a little more action-oriented than my usual fare, which was quite entertaining to draw. Most importantly though, I feel that I’ve improved my artwork throughout this arc. I actually took the time to learn a little bit about color-coordination, and while it’s still not perfect, I’ve definitely got a better look going now. I’ll still probably tweak it for the next arc, but still, the more you know! My lineart I feel has also improved, even if just a little bit!
Hola! I’ll keep this short and sweet, as I really should be in bed for work in a few hours, but also because I’m knackered! It’s been an awesomely fun week; I had a few days off to celebrate my birthday and one of my good pal’s birthdays, and much bbq was consumed. I think I’m getting my recipe for bbq sauce down pat!
Anyway, enjoy today’s page, and I’ll catch you all again on Monday! Toodle-oo!

I’m pretty sure my oestrogen levels just shot right up with that panel there. I do draw an adorable baby, even if I do say so myself!
I’ve always wanted to have children. Not, like, immediately right now, of course; I’ve stil got loads and loads to get done before I’d feel accomplished and stable enough to bring a new life into the world. But I do feel I should be putting more effort into finding a partner. As you may know from years of reading my blog posts, I’m not particularly brilliant with the opposite sex; my cocktail of mental issues, a few bad experiences, all coupled with my less-than-stellar looks have combined to give me what has been a relatively relationship-free life so far.
