Hullo folks, just a quick post today – I’m afraid I’ve been ground down a fair bit this evening with politics and people scoring cheap shots. Between the looming possibility of President Trump and the constant siege Scottish pro-independence supporters seem to be under from the government and the media… It amazes me how we have survived as a species when we have shown ourselves to be so resistant to change, so unprogressive, so utterly tribal, greedy, and vile a species. The ratio of times I am impressed with our achievements versus times I wish we had a reset button keeps on getting smaller and more depressing.

I promised you a couple of articles – one silly, and one a bit more serious. This is the silly one.
After much study and academic thought, I hereby declare Friendship is Magic’s Princess Luna as Best Pony. Why, you ask? Because she strikes an almost perfect balance between being impressive and insecure.
I mean, yes, she is a living goddess who could enslave all of Equestria to do her bidding – but she doesn’t exercise that in the present. Rather, the time in the past when she reigned as a dark queen was marked as the result of jealousy and an ill-deserved sense of inferiority. And who hasn’t been in the position where they have done something they regret because they felt they were being neglected or underappreciated?
Hullo everybody! Welp, that’s the festive season over and done with for another year. Time for me to start looking forward to summer now, and plotting barbecues and trips away and the like.
What I’ll also be doing is realigning my creative workstream with my work regime, now that things are settling down a bit. I did enjoy my little post-work writing sessions in the cafe, and I’d love to get back to doing that. Especially as I picked up a short story I’d first-drafted in the cafe a good long while back. I’d forgotten just how poignant the ending was (if I do say so myself).
Merry Christmas everyone! Whether you celebrate it or not, nonetheless I wish you good health and cheer, and hope that you’re having fun whether on your own, with family, with someone else’s family, or on a classified mission in a sub three miles off the shores of Antarctica!
Have a great one, folks, and I’ll see you on Monday for the next instalment of Elf Blood: Alfheim!
Cheerio!

We just got in from our work night out, where we went and saw The Force Awakens, so I’ll keep this brief before staggering off to my well-deserved bed:
IT WAS AWESOME! GO SEE IT!
I’ll maybe do a more in-depth review next week, but if you have time this weekend, I’d definitely recommend going out and catching the film! You will not regret it!
All the best for now!

Aloha troops! As the post title indicates, I have a query to ask of you. But first! Some background. I’m heading back down to Manchester briefly soon, and due to terrible foresight and planning, I’m going to have to make one of the upcoming Elf Blood pages a pinup (which takes less time to illustrate than a full page).
Normally I just pick a character and illustrate them wearing or doing something interesting, but this time, since I know in advance that I’ll need to do one, I thought I’d offer you guys the chance to let me know what you’d like to see in that one-off illustration! Is there a character, or maybe a couple of characters you enjoy seeing interacting? Somebody that you’ve not seen in a while, and would be interested in seeing how my evolved art-style will render them? A character who’s been killed off, but whom you quite liked and wouldn’t mind seeing again?
Well, I’ve been threatening it for a while now, and I’ve finally gone and done it! One of the projects I’d been working on during my recent holiday was to tart up my Twitch channel and actually start streaming. And I have been!
If you’re interested in watching me draw stuff (and listen to some hand-picked CC-licensed music from the good folks at the Free Music Archive), then tune into my streams at http://www.twitch.tv/maothecat! Twitch also stores videos, so you don’t have to be on at the same time that I’m streaming to watch – though if you are, you get to chat with me!
Hullo everybody! Hope you’re all had a fantastic time over Christmas, and that you’re all looking forward to an even better new year!
Now, I’ve been talking about this artist, Alasdair Gray, for about a week now without having the time to get around to talking about him – I’ve been in contact with his work for almost all of my life. It’s ubiquitous throughout Glasgow, and if you live here it becomes a real part of your cultural makeup.
I’m used to the more grotesque aspects of his style, where reality is portrayed as a flawed, ugly thing that nonetheless is deserving of being captured and rendered as art. But this exhibition gave me the chance to see many different sides to Mr. Gray, and to appreciate the full breadth of his talent.
Merry Christmas to one and all! I hope you’re having a great time out there, wherever you are and whatever you’re celebrating, and that you’re with those who matter most to you whoever they may be! Make merry and be joyous, and I wish you all good cheer!
Please also spare a thought for the families of the victims of the Glasgow George Street Crash, who will no doubt be feeling less festive at this moment in time – We grieve with them for this tragedy, we remember the loss of their loved ones, and we hope that they find the strength to carry on.
Happy Halloween, everyone! Hope you have a fun time. Don’t eat too many sweets, now 😛
I don’t know what it’s like elsewhere, but it seems that here in the UK Halloween gets less and less prominent every year. I remember, when I were a lad, Halloween was a MASSIVE thing. Shops would get all queued up for it, there’d be spooky decor everywhere, restaurants and clubs and bars would all run theme nights. It’d be a good, fun time, perfect for kids with a sense for the macabre.
