Hullo everyone! I hope your week’s been less taxing and stressful than mine! As a result, today’s post is going to be a fairly short one, as I’m about to jump off and draw a birthday present for a friend. Enjoy your weekend, everybody!

Blimey, it’s been a bit of a busy weekend, with house stuff to organise and relatives to see. But, fortunately, I’ve been able to keep up with my artwork and writing due to some good focus and time management.
Not only am I impressed with myself for getting it together this weekend, it also gives me a massive sense of satisfaction – things at work are a wee bit stressful just now, and sometimes bleeds over into creative time. But being able to complete my art projects while handling that really encourages me, because it shows I AM capable of handling the artwork workload.
Well, it’s been an eventful run-up to the 2015 General Election here in the UK so far. The smears and negativity are flying around thick and fast, within the political parties, the media, and the general public. It’s turned into one massively horribly managed PR exercise, with most parties seemingly having deployed the most childish, least experienced comms teams they could get their grubby hands on.
Seriously, what the hell has happened to politics? Now, I’m going to confess my bias immediately – you all knew that I campaigned for the Yes side in the referendum, and my affiliation lies with the SNP. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t respect the leaders of the other parties, or their representatives.

Just a quick post today as it’s quite late – I’ve been rather busy measuring up the house and ordering furniture and appliances for it, getting stuff set up etc. It’s all going pretty well so far, and I am quite enjoying wandering around the new place, deciding where things should go!
Anyway, must dash – toodlepip for now folks, and brace yourselves for more politics. The general election’s coming up, and something truly heinous has happened already
So, today I became a homeowner! It’s a pretty awesome feeling, stepping into that empty building, seeing all the potential. I’m really looking forward to filling it up with new furniture, and the stuff that’s been sitting in my parents’ garage since I moved back from Manchester. I’m also really looking forward to digging out old comics that I’ve not seen in four years, also sitting in boxes in the garage!
I’m incredibly lucky. I’ve been fortunate enough to be in jobs that have allowed me to save up a decent amount of money, and I have the most wonderful, supportive family, that all add up to me being able to afford this place, which is pretty damn nice for a first home. I hope that, one day, everyone will be able to afford a place of their own, without having to have the substantial advantages that I have. I want to achieve that through charitable donation, and to increasing my involvement in socialist politics.
Hullo all you lovely people! I thought I’d just let you know that there might be a wee bit of disruption to the comic schedule in the coming weeks – I’ll try to build up a buffer as much as I can, but you might see one or two photographs of pencil-sketches just to tide you over. My apologies in advance if this does indeed come to pass!
But, the good news is that I’ll be moving into my very own house! I’m ridiculously excited about this. As much as I like the idea of living in a flat, I do occasionally have flashbacks to the latter couple of years I lived in Manchester… Oh, the horrendous bass.
Blimey, this is the 500th page I’ve drawn for Elf Blood! Quite an achievement, by any stretch of the imagination, I’d say! And I’d definitely say that I’ve improved! Seriously, go back to those first few pages. Heck, go back a year, two years ago! My artwork is definitely much tighter, more detailed, and much more consistent! I’m thrilled that I’ve gotten this far – I must admit, there have been a few times when I seriously considered abandoning the comic.
One thing that I’ve never actually done before is practice life drawing. Of course, I’ve sketched models from photographs, particularly when I was learning more about musculature, but I’ve never actually sat down in front of a life model and drawn them.
During last week’s business trip (which I’m still recovering from, I suspect, thanks to a cold contracted either while there or on the way back) I met up with a good pal o’ mine, and wandered along to a life-drawing class with him. It was a pretty interesting experience, and was actually pretty challenging for me. I’ve never reallyworked with a subject that changed over time – aside from a couple of sketches done while waiting for friends in cafés, all I’ve ever drawn or painted has been done from photographs, landscapes, or still-life. This was completely new to me, but I think the results turned out quite well! What do you think?
Choo choo! I’m on a train. Or will be shortly. Or possibly getting in a car with my boss. Either way, it’s fun times this evening with some pals, Indian food, catchup, and plotting for an artistic endeavour that’s been simmering away for a while.

Aloha folks! As you read this page, I’ll probably be making my way down to Manchester for training, or will be in said training. 3 AM start to make double-safety-sure I catch the train, that’s like… Four hours away. Fun times!
Anyway, hope you’re enjoying the story and the art! Normal service will resume next week, but you’ll not notice as I’ll be queuing up Friday’s comic.
