Hullo all! I reckon I owe you all an apology for being a bit of a buzz-kill over the last week or so. I don’t want to bring anyone down, and I don’t mean to inflict you with my depression! Anyway, hope I haven’t bothered anyone with my whininess.
Anyway, moving on; big news this week. Thatcher is dead, and the nation is going a touch crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I have no fondness for the woman (mostly born out of my father’s socialist influence, but he made good points nonetheless), and I don’t believe in the concept of “don’t speak ill of the dead”. After all, she engendered a culture focussed on greed and self-importance that has crippled our nation’s ability to defend itself in the face of economic collapse. However, I strongly disagree with the notion of actively celebrating her death. Death is not something that should be treated lightly. Particularly in this case; She was so far removed from power and influence these days, what difference did her death make to the world as a whole?
