Bank Holiday, huzzah!

It’s a bank holiday today, huzzah! I might venture into town for a coffee, or a nice lunch. Wish payday came before the holiday weekend, though, still counting them pennies!

Anyway, I’m just going to keep it brief so as to wander off and not do those things, instead working on art 😛 But before I go, have a quick look-see at some warm-ups I’ve been doing for the upcoming Mei-Wu block! Another weekend zips by!

Welp, another weekend has come and gone, and the week looms over us like a… Great big looming thing. I’m feeling pretty knackered, and though I’ve not done anywhere NEAR the work I should have, I’m still feeling pretty chirpy! It’s been an unusually sociable weekend for me, and it’s been great catching up with people over dinner and the cinema.

Friday, woo!

It’s Friday and I’m intensely glad to see it! Spot of dinner at a colleague’s restaurant with some good friends, more illustration in the evening, Payday 2 on the go… Plenty to distract from the mind-numbing horrors of the modern office.

So, people have expressed some interest in allowing me to use Elf Blood time to illustrate a print-work, if I put it up here like it was a semi-weekly. It’s encouraging to hear! If nobody objects, I might insert a 10-pager in between this arc of Elf Blood, and the next. It’d definitely help me out, and I think you’ll enjoy the characters! read more

Blasts from the past!

So, I caved in and finally got a Netflix subscription the other day.

BEST. DECISION. EVER! There’s plenty on there that I love watching, including gems that I haven’t seen in a while, like the fantastic mid-90s animation Hey, Arnold!

If you haven’t seen Hey, Arnold! before, in a nutshell it’s nominally a kid’s series about the titular character and his friends being kids in the city. In modern terms, it’s almost like a slice-of-life story, with a varied cast of characters from all walks of life. More importantly, each story wasn’t just a fun story about stuff the average 9-year old does (or wishes they could do), it usually also contained a moral too. What was great about the writing was that it never felt like you were being beaten over the head, or preached to; Rather, it seemed to serve more as a demonstration of different social scenarios. read more

Possible Experimentation!

Ahoy hoy everyone! Hope you’re all doing well, and had/are having a good Eid if you’re so inclined!

I come to you today with a potential proposal for experimentation. One of the problems I run into while tackling my weekly art workload is that often I’m too busy creating to create! By which I mean I prioritise my Elf Blood work over my print stuff, because I don’t want to miss out a day here and leave you guys hanging. If I lose part of the buffer due to holidays, I obviously have to dedicate more resources to restoring the buffer as soon as possible. read more

Dr. Who’s on first, Watt’s on second…

So, the new Doctor has been announced, and it’s cute’n’cuddly Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, most recognised for his role in political satire The Thick Of It.

Now, I stopped watching Dr. Who a fair while ago. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t because the show’s quality declined, I just found myself less and less motivated to watch the programme. With Capaldi on board, however, things might just well change. For a start, they’ve gone for an older Doctor again, which will lend a lot more gravitas to the role; for all the brilliance that David Tennant and Matt Smith have brought, they do feel like they are somewhat geared towards a younger audience. Capaldi definitely appeals to older viewers, and opens up the possibility of writing more mature scripts (and I’m talking mature like documentaries about the industrial revolution, not mature like the shagfest that is Torchwood). read more

Wait, it’s August?

Hullo everyone! It’s hard to believe it’s August already. It feels like only last week it was Christmas…

Anyway, another brief post today I’m afraid, as I’ve run out of buffer due to a lovely, lovely trip for my birthday back up to the green and pleasant land that is Glasgow. Good times were had, white russians were drunk, and lochs were visited, so I’m in a pretty good mood this week! Although I’m sure something’ll crop up at work to obliterate that. read more

Trepidation: Why?

It was the great Wayne Gretzky who said “You’re guaranteed to miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Sage words from a man I barely know (it was a friend who introduced me to the quote). The words have rung true with me through the years, though, and I’ve always hoped to hold it as my guiding principle.

I thought I was bold when I started doing Elf Blood. After all, it takes a certain amount of faith in one’s own abilities to put a comic up online for all to see, that it will be readable, of sufficient graphical quality, and overall entertaining enough to capture an audience. read more

Ackbar’s Fightin’ Ships

I promised you a nerdy discussion, and a nerdy discussion ye shall have!

So, Return of the Jedi was on TV the other day; Unfortunately it was the Special Edition, but we’ll not be snobs about that today. It’s still a fantastic film, and I’d forgotten just how much I loved the film as a child!

But, older and (nominally) wiser, naturally questions raise themselves. Because I’m a shut-in who plays a lot of video games, the thing that got me this viewing was the roles of the rebel fighter craft. Specifically, the B-Wing. read more
