So good to be back…

Yay, a new story page! WITH SHOCKING TWIST!

I can’t express how good it feels to be able to work on comic pages during the week, again. My work-life balance as of recent has been pretty terrible, and I’ve just been so tired. Sometimes, the only thing getting me through the day is the knowledge that I’m making progress with my professional creative presnce. Some days, I even think of myself as a real artist!

Here’s hoping my evenings stay clear from now on (despite yesterday’s efforts to throw me off track. Seriously, quarter to friggin five a new thing came in. Yeesh.) – it’s so much more fun doing art than dreaming about doing art. read more

One day we’ll get back on the story…

Hi folks, sorry for yet more filler – a combination of work, preparation for my friend’s wedding, and a horrendous injury (seriously, do NOT strain your tibiala anterior, that shit HURTS) have meant I’ve had to minimise my time spent at my drawing board and machine.

So I thought I’d colour the ideas I had from last week – going for a bright, almost neon palette. Might do some studies of 90s comics and advertising, actually. The key thing is, though, I really want to keep the key colours associated with each character – can anyone hazard a guess as to what the Bad Gals’ colour schemes are references to? 😀 read more

Another Hectic Week

Hey everyone, sorry for the filler, but it’s been another incredibly busy week, with late nights and tiredness all round and not enough time to do the comic. On the plus side, I did get along to last night’s Drink and Draw session, which was great, got to catch up with a few people there. So I doodled down some ideas I’ve been working on, in this case “Bad Gal Bodega”. Hey folks! Not much time to write this post, but just to recap briefly:

  • Glenrothes Comic Con was brilliant! Thanks so much to everyone stopping by and buying stuff from me – I’ll hopefully see you again!
  • I started kung fu lessons. Holy cow everything hurts.
  • Work is still manic.
  • I’m REALLY looking forward to this weekend. Not for the rest, but to get back into the art 😀

Glenrothes Comic Con, here I come!

Hey folks! It’s been a busy week, and it’s only gonna get busier! I’ve not long packed my trekking backpack full of stuff, and my trolley case full of even more stuff, that’s been freshly run off the press and guillotined and packaged up neatly – and it’s off to the Kingdom of Fife for Glenrothes Comic Con on Saturday!

Here’s the other new print I’ve created, the counterpart to Yue-Tou the moon Rabbit. She is Seung-Ngo (Or Chang’e if you speak Mandarin), the Archer’s wife who became the moon goddess. I’m really pleased with how this turned out! read more

So… Much… Work…

Hey everybody! It’s just over a week now to go before Glenrothes comic con, and I’ve STILL loads to do! I’ve put in orders for vinyl sticker printing, I’m waiting on one batch of stickers, I’m desperately trying to get a second batch of stickers finished in time (might just barely be able to skim it by on Monday, if not no harm I guess, will just have to start selling them at Small Press Day in July!), and I’ve still got one print to start let alone finish, and then to print and cut the new set of prints I want to sell. read more

Sorry, sorry

Hi folks, sorry for more filler – guaranteed page next week, as I managed to get to the flat colours stage with the page, but am unable to complete it tonight as something incredibly cropped up at work that I had to stay late for, and need to be alert for tomorrow so I can’t justify staying up to finish the page 🙁

The hazards of the dayjob, folks. Really sorry about this, especially as I’m quite pleased how the pencils and inks turned out! Like I said, guaranteed page next week. In the meantime, please enjoy the coloured version of last week’s Extra, which I’ll be selling as a print starting at Glenrothes Comic Con on June 9th. read more

Good news!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of a proper page today, it’s been a bit busy this week, but I do have good news to bring as compensation! I’ve booked into Glenrothes Comic Con out in Fife, so I’ll be tabling there on June 9th – please drop by and say hi if you’re in the area!

In the meantime, please enjoy the pencils of a print card I’m working on – one of a series of Chinese mythological characters. This is the famous rabbit in the moon, who uses her mortar and pestle to mix the immortality medicine. read more

Save Brooklyn 99!

Hey everyone! Terrible news! Fox is cancelling one of my favouritest-est shows of all time, Brooklyn 99!

Apparently it’s been suffering from poor ratings, and I just do not understand why that would be the case – it’s solidly written, with relatable and enjoyable characters, and it’s representative as all hell! My personal favourite episode is “Moo-Moo”, which tackles the “Walking-while-black” issue in US policing. I love that the central conflict isn’t whether or not the officer that stops and searches Terry is doing his job or not – it’s specifically called out for being a bad thing – but instead is a question of Black Survival. Does Terry raise an official complaint and make sure a bad cop never inflicts that pain on another black person again? Or does he stay quiet to  protect his career so that he can rise to the top and effect much greater change? read more
