Finally, Summer!

Aloha mateys! Hope you’re all doing well, I thought I’d space the end of the last Elf Blood arc and the start of the next Mei Wu story with a little Extra of everyone’s favourite fox cub, Fliss. I decided to dabble a little in some blended shading, and I think it turned out quite nicely on her! Too time-consuming to consider for the regular comic though, I’m afraid, but still, nice to play around with!

Sunday was a lovely day – proper day of summer, you know the ones where you really struggle to keep cool and even the fan just starts blowing around warm air. Took the opportunity to get a little gardening work done, and cut up some old cardboard boxes for recycling. The real cherry on the top actually came on Saturday night – On Friday, I fell asleep at 12, as I was so exhausted from work, and didn’t wake up ’til 12 on Saturday afternoon. Naturally, I wasn’t able to get to sleep at my normal time, so I continued drawing well into the wee hours of the morning – and got to witness a thunderstorm 😀 read more

Stuff to Love About Summer

As I very nearly forgot to upload the comic again, and it’s now very late indeed, I thought I’d just fill today’s post with some lovely stuff about summer! God knows we could all use a bit of positive thinking, what with conflict and aerial disasters happening left, right, and centre.

  • Long days
  • Pretty flowers
  • Prettier butterflies
  • Special bugs
  • The warm feel of sun-kissed earth under your feet
  • The coolness of the grass when you inevitably step on a REALLY hot bit of ground
  • Blue skies
  • Fluffy clouds
  • Actually being glad when it rains
  • The smell of barbecue wafting through the air
  • Being able to sit outside at a restaurant or cafe without freezing halfway to death
  • Justifiable ice-cream!

Anyhoodle, I shall leave you to enjoy this page! There’s only a couple of pages left in this arc, and I’m going to do a little summary on how I thought it went, see if it tallies with you guys’ opinions! read more

Mm, sunlight

Ah, Sumer is Icumen as they say in some places where they stuff nosy police officers into giant effigies made of wicker. The days are getting longer and longer, and the weather is getting lovely and warm. The best part of it all? It’s getting easier to wake up early at the weekends and get a good amount of work done!

Why is it that it feels better to wake up earlier and do work, rather than to do the same amount of work by waking up and going to bed later on in the day? It might be related to the idea that waking up to see the sunrise feels better than staying up for it; In the former, it signals the beginning of a new day, and it just feels like you have more time. The latter is more easily associated with staying up far too late than is recommended (and, for any artist with a dayjob, a common occurrence). read more

Carnivále!

Morning/Afternoon/Evening all!

What a fantastic day yesterday was! The Manchester Day Parade went off without a hitch, with fantastic weather and a plethora of inspired floats moving along the route. It was so great to see not just so many fun designs, and talented and committed community groups participitating, but also the excellent turnout from members of the public. There’s really no better feeling than wheeling a float along the city streets with thousands of people cheering you on from all sides, young and old alike! The artists who worked on the creations really did themselves a huge credit; All the centrepieces were fascinating, bright and really involving, and the performers along the route did a great job engaging with the crowd. Full props to the School of Samba. The man known to us only as the Dance Commander clearly loves what he does, and has a bitchin’ awesome uniform to boot! 😛 read more
