I’m not going to give him too much publicity here, but a certain well-known ‘pick-up artist’, famous for publishing books detailing ways in which one could coerce women into sleeping with them, and for his horrendous stance that rape of a woman should be legal on private property, has been forced to flee with his tail tucked between his legs.

He had been organising meetings of his lunk-headed ‘neo-masculine’ followers, secretive, childish affairs involving passcodes and laughable threats of retribution against ‘non-believers’ where MEN could discuss and share ideas about being MANLY and tips on how to force women to sleep with them. One of these meetups was (very unwisely) situated in my good ol’ hometown of Glasgow. read more

It’s my weekend and I’ll party if I want

Hullo everyone!

It’s been another exhausting week, but hope is on the horizon! If the chaos manages to keep itself to a minimum tomorrow, I maaaaay just be able to slip away from work a couple of hours early… Which reduces my time owed down to… Just over two full work days. And that’s just since I started counting!

That two hours could give me a real boost, though. If I have more time, I can be more relaxed, and if I’m more relaxed, I’m more amenable to being creative. If all goes well, I’ll be doing a bit of painting later on today, which I’m massively looking forward to! read more

The Wages of Wage Servitude

Well, here’s what shoulve have been Friday’s page – Even this took me longer than I expected to finish off, despite my having drawn and inked it on Monday evening.

I’m finding more and more that work is cutting into my art time, and it’s getting incredibly frustrating. Of course, even though it’s not what I want to do for the rest of my life, I want to do the right thing and do the best possible job while I’m at work. But that work is getting incredibly draining. Either I’m working extra hours that directly mean I don’t get enough time to both illustrate/write AND have dinner before I collapse in a heap in bed, or I’m working extra hours which means that I’m too exhausted to do anything at the weekend. Just this week, I had to work until 2000 on Friday evening finishing something off for a client. I then had to go and do my weekly shop, which somehow took me up to 2130. Then, the bus didn’t show up until 2230. So, to nobody’s surprise, instead of finishing off the penultimate page of Bonnie Words (which I’m considering my first real step towards professional publication) on Saturday, I spent the day sleeping, complaining to my family, and generally trying to de-stress. read more

The weekend beckons!

Yup, it’s another Late Night(tm)! Thankfully, the weekend is rushing up on me and I’ve got some holiday coming up next week. Some well-deserved holiday I might add… Anyone got any interesting plans for the weekend? I think the highlight of mine is probably finally tackling the rest of my lawn. I… may have left the grass to grow too long, and I can only mow so much before my mower overheats… Yes, there really is nothing like the smell of toasting grass!

Hullo everyone, just a wee quick post (seeing as I’m pre-loading this at half past one in the morning and have work in a few hours’ time) to wish all my Muslim pals the very best for Ramadan. Especially seeing as it’s summer, with the longest possible daylight hours. I shall try my best not to tempt you with delicious food!

I’m on holiday!!!

Whee, house!

Just a quick post today as it’s quite late – I’ve been rather busy measuring up the house and ordering furniture and appliances for it, getting stuff set up etc. It’s all going pretty well so far, and I am quite enjoying wandering around the new place, deciding where things should go!

I’m offski!

Aloha folks! As you read this page, I’ll probably be making my way down to Manchester for training, or will be in said training. 3 AM start to make double-safety-sure I catch the train, that’s like… Four hours away. Fun times!

We have lost another great contributor to our collective culture. Terry Pratchett, noted author and creator of the Discworld universe, passed away yesterday after eight years of battlng Alzheimers.

I’m sure most of you reading this will be familiar with his works, and will also miss his curious and witty writing style. He wrote characters with whom we could relate, even though they were worlds away in a fantasy universe. He wrote characters with whom we empathised, and admired, and laughed and cheered along with. He wrote characters who we wish that we might meet. read more
