Back to DayZ

Allo all! Despite my incredible busy-ness in the last week or so (which has seen MB!! Magazine lying, unupdated) I have managed to find a little bit of time to get some gaming in with my mates. They’ve finally convinced me to come back to DayZ, after I left it a few months ago due to some complete asshattery on the parts of some other survivors.

I must say, the game is still quite tense, and with the addition of axes as melee weapons, exploring through zombie-infested country is a lot easier. I’ve not yet encountered any other survivors, but every moment is a tense waiting game; You just never know when that bullet is coming for you. Fortunately, I’ve JUST acquired a new long rifle, and we’re now travelling in a pack so I feel a little bit safer in-game, now. read more

The Cycle

I suppose it is, by now, a cliché to say that everything must end to allow the new to take root. But finally finishing off something, whether it’s a book, a game, or something that you’re working on is always so exciting. It means you’ve accomplished something, that you’ve borne it out to the end and maintained the effort required to do so.

Then there’s the excitement of what you’re going to work on next. Maybe you’ll choose a different book, or you’ll revisit a game that you’ve neglected for a long time. In my case, I get a couple of pages’ breather where I get to try something completely new, followed by a brand spanking new story arc that I’m really pleased with (having actually written the script beforehand, instead of just plot outline). On Friday, I’ll be telling a story as the Accountant, and the Monday after that I’ll be experimenting with new photoshop techniques to produce a ‘cover’ for the new arc, ‘Dreamland’. It’s not so much a break in that I’ll be doing less work: It’s a break in the routine, a chance for me to do something completely different. That’s what I find most exciting: Variety. read more

Sleeping Patterns

Morning all, just a quick blog post today as I’ve pretty much been working round the clock and am about to collapse face-first into the keyboard!

What does sleep mean to you? Is it a part of the day that you look forward to or do you view it as a distraction, something to be endured before the next thing worth doing? Do you hate having to get up in the morning, or do you bound out of bed, full of beans and ready to take on the world?

A Consultation

Morning all!

Unfortunately it’s been a bit of a wet weekend, and as such we didn’t get to see Batman: The Dark Knight Rises since nobody was all that keen on swimming to the cinema. So America and anyone else who gets films after the UK: I think we can call this one a draw 😛

I was going to do an in-depth artistic analysis on a recent website that came to my attention, but as flat inspection is coming up and I’ve been attempting to clean up this dump and illustrate all day, I’ve not been able to prepare one. Troll troll troll your boat…

The playerbase of DayZ continues to expand, despite having an advertising budget of exactly zero dollars. Now, while this pays tribute to the fantastic work that Rocket has put into the mod and the intense fun that is possible to have, unfortunately with more people comes the fact that the rate of banditry is rising.

Allow me to explain: Bandits are players who murder other players (survivors) for equipment or for fun. PKers, essentially.

Now, I have nothing against bandits at all. They’re a vital part of the game experience, ratcheting up the tension of every encounter with an unfamiliar player. What I DO take issue with, however, is the increasing rate of complete and utter assholes playing the game. read more

We’re baaack!

Well, I managed to get the site up and running again, no thanks to the hosting company. Let’s hope that the database server is a bit more stable than it has been!

Anyway, apologies for the downtime, I hope you managed to get the postcards on the temporary site I set up! I also apologise for the lack of shading on this page: The idea was for me to come back and ease myself back in with a little light shading work. Instead, I got to spend a couple of hours populating a brand new WordPress database. Yay! read more
