So, on Friday after work, I’m in the supermarket minding my own business, when a new line opens at the checkout. I zip in behind somebody else, when I happen to run into an old schoolmate of mine who I’ve not seen in a good couple of years.
Since he’s got less stuff than me and there’s nobody behind me, I let him go first and we have a good ol’ catchup – how’s the family, work, general nerdery – all while I’m loading my shopping cart’s contents onto the conveyer belt.

On Monday I asked you to do some homework, in the form of reading up on local creative phenomenon Alasdair Gray. Unfortunately, Sky’s normal service levels have somehow sunk to sub-useable levels, and so I’m not able to really spend all that much time gushing about how amazing Mr. Gray’s artwork and spirit is, so those of you who haven’t done the reading, consider this a reprieve until next Monday!

So, the new Doctor has been announced, and it’s cute’n’cuddly Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, most recognised for his role in political satire The Thick Of It.
Now, I stopped watching Dr. Who a fair while ago. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t because the show’s quality declined, I just found myself less and less motivated to watch the programme. With Capaldi on board, however, things might just well change. For a start, they’ve gone for an older Doctor again, which will lend a lot more gravitas to the role; for all the brilliance that David Tennant and Matt Smith have brought, they do feel like they are somewhat geared towards a younger audience. Capaldi definitely appeals to older viewers, and opens up the possibility of writing more mature scripts (and I’m talking mature like documentaries about the industrial revolution, not mature like the shagfest that is Torchwood).
Aloha everybody! We’re nearing the end of the Dreamland Story Arc, so I thought I’d give you a little update on the upcoming story arc: Crush Depth!
Unfortunately I’ve not yet finished the actual script for the story, owing to having to deal with work work through lunchtimes when I’d normally be scripting. The detailed plot has been done for a while, though, and I’m about halfway complete on the script itself, so if I dedicate some time to working on it I’ll be able to get it done and reviewed before I start illustrating it!
I was going to do an in-depth artistic analysis on a recent website that came to my attention, but as flat inspection is coming up and I’ve been attempting to clean up this dump and illustrate all day, I’ve not been able to prepare one. So here, have a few of my impending ideas for new creative work instead:

‘i.’: A story about a supernatural serial-killer and his relationship with a successful author. Includes plenty of mindscrews and plenty of futility, despair and frustration.
The playerbase of DayZ continues to expand, despite having an advertising budget of exactly zero dollars. Now, while this pays tribute to the fantastic work that Rocket has put into the mod and the intense fun that is possible to have, unfortunately with more people comes the fact that the rate of banditry is rising.
Allow me to explain: Bandits are players who murder other players (survivors) for equipment or for fun. PKers, essentially.
Now, I have nothing against bandits at all. They’re a vital part of the game experience, ratcheting up the tension of every encounter with an unfamiliar player. What I DO take issue with, however, is the increasing rate of complete and utter assholes playing the game.
Although I wrote the script for this a while prior, an intriguing occurrence has transpired on Wikipedia: That regarding the naming of the recent weather system affecting Scotland, officialy Cyclone Friedhelm, but more popularly referred to as ‘Hurricane Bawbag’. Interestingly, and perhaps somewhat predictably, the main drivers for a change in the article title to its official name has not come from editors within Scotland, but from mostly US-based stakeholders. Unfortunately, they appear not to have dealt with Scottish people before, let alone Scottish nerds: You push an issue with a Scot, and they’ll stand firm. You push an issue with a Scottish Nerd, and you are looking at a full fortification with justification pulled from the very documents you are attempting to effect the change under. Seriously, just go look at the discussion page: It’s hilarious.
Ahoy thar all, MERRY HOLIDAY TIME! Only half a day of work to get through, then it’s off on me hols. Thoroughly looking forward to the first week of pure art, and then two weeks of catching up with friends and family back up north.
Anyway, just a short update today as I need to finish a sticker for a friend and wrap up presents I need to hand out at work. And it’s 0130 already, boo! Well, I’ll just have to set up a really loud alarm, I guess!

In other issues, I’m aware that the current chapter of Miscalculation has been trundling along, a little slowly. But fear not! The next three sections are action-packed and filled with wonder and ass-kickings galore! It was just necessary to do a bit of setup for some of the plot points. I say a bit of setup, there has been a considerable amount of setup and foreshadowing throughout this chapter and previous story arcs for not just the Miscalculation story arc, but the following ones also 😀 So stay tuned! And don’t fear: Elf Blood will continue over the Christmas period, for maximum awesomeness! Plus, a lovely Christmas treat for you to unwrap on Christmas day. Aren’t I nice? 😛
