It’s been a while!

Hey folks! Sorry for the loooong break! As I’m sure you can understand… Just, everything.

I’ve been busy working on other comics and things, and trying desperately to get my creative mojo back, but I’ve been missing drawing Elf Blood a lot too, so this week I made a concerted effort to finish a new story page! I’m pretty pleased with it, too, and I think I’ve also improved a bit (or, at the very least, gotten out of the tired rut I was in).

New story page, hooray!

I know these are a bit few and far between these days, but I always relish the chance to work on a page of Elf Blood – it keeps me grounded and reminds me of all the work I’ve done to get me to where I am just now. I’ve got a lot further to go, still, and Elf Blood lets me practice and experiment, which is pretty cool!

Anyway, hope you’re all well and surviving the lockdown okay!

How’s it going?

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay in getting a page out, but it’s here now!

Hope everybody’s doing okay during Lockdown – I don’t know if there is light at the end of the tunnel, there’s talk of easing the lockdown restrictions but at the same time I’m still worried about the fact that infections are still occurring… Gonna be difficult for everyone for a long while after this, I suspect.

It’s a bit sad that the major cons I was gonna do this year have been cancelled, but I’m still holding out hope that Paisley and Edinburgh will go ahead! I’ve only been doing cons for a couple of years, and it’s astounding how much I use them to judge my progress in comics by! read more

Did you know?

Hey all!

Hope you’re all doing okay, and that everybody’s well and keeping themselves occupied! I was doing a bit of idle research today, for an idea that I’ll get to work on in about fifty years’ time no doubt. But I discovered something really cool! Have you heard of Forest Farming? It’s such an incredibly cool concept that allows for large tracts of land to be used for agriculture while sustaining a diverse, almost natural ecosphere! Now, I’m sure that it probably has lower yields and higher costs than conventional agriculture, but I really like the idea of being able to use the land within a forest for sustainable crop growing, and that it’s something that we might be able (or possibly be pushed to) practice in the future. A canopy of trees providing us with oxygen, managed carefully by well-trained and knowledgable workers who trim the crowns, letting enough sunlight reach the slightly tilled soil to germinate new crops. Doesn’t that sound almost idyllic? read more

Hi everybody! A big welcome on board to anyone who’s found this comic through the Literature Alliance Scotland list of free stuff to read during the lockdown! Hopefully you’re enjoying the story so far – I had a wee look back through the archive, and I’m really pleased with how far I’ve come both in terms of art and storytelling. It’s been over ten years since I started this comic, and I owe so much of my progress to having this as a practice piece that I used to work on almost daily. As a result of that, I now have paid work and am working on other comic projects – but I just can’t abandon my elfy pals, so this’ll probably continue for a while yet 😛 read more

Hey everybody! Hope you’re all safe, sound, and healthy! Not much to report here honestly – not much you can do while under lockdown!

Anybody else keeping a Lockdown Diary? I’ve been reading over mine. It’s a couple of weeks old, now – I’m hoping it’ll be a useful source in the future for understanding the societal impact of the lockdown. So far it’s largely complaining about the government and idiots in society, but maybe something’ll get more interesting eventually… read more

Surviving COVID-19

Hey folks!

Sorry it’s getting so long between updates – I’ve been really busy with paid comic work and work work and everything, and now the WORLD is ending, etc etc…

Hope everyone’s been getting on okay in the face of the virus! How have you all been surviving? I’ve been keeping a COVID-19 diary, in the hope that it’ll at least provide some sort of interesting material to publish when it all blows over.

In the meantime, conventions are getting postponed everywhere, causing major issues for comic creators all over the world. It’s a pretty grim time for the indie part of our industry, and it’s becoming apparent that we can’t rely on conventions alone to help our careers. I’m thinking of getting together with some other folks, including the crew over at BlueBolt Comics, to figure out a way of making progress that isn’t as heavy on physical presence. Two weeks in a row, woo!

Hey everyone! Hopefully this marks the beginning of really getting back into the swing of things. And eventually I’ll finish this story arc, it’s been a year and a bit 😛

Also, this is actually the first time I’ve illustrated Sterope in the new colour palette. I quite like that her habit is a bit richer, it feels more noticeable.

Aaaaand we’re back!

Hey everyone! Sorry it’s been a while, but I’m sure you can appreciate I’ve been CRAAAAAZY busy over the last couple of months – hell, I’m going to be crazy busy over the next couple of months, too! But with the rest and relaxation I’ve had over the holidays (much needed, let me tell you) I feel re-energised and ready to go again, so hopefully more regular updates on the webcomic will resume!
