Tefnical Diffticulties

Guten tag!

First off, I just want to apologise to anybody who’s been experiencing any difficulty getting the site to load – The host had a couple of issues with their servers, but they sorted it out with their usual professionalism and speed, for which I’m grateful. The site still feels a wee bit sluggish, but that might just be because I’m more aware of the load time per page. Hopefully it doesn’t detract from your reading experience!

I have to admit – I’m really bad at handling surprises that are outwith my control. I’m anxious enough at the best of times, although moving back to Glasgow’s really been helping me out in that regard. But this morning, as the site was unresponsive, my thoughts actually turned somewhat toward something alarming. read more

Why aren’t you watching Guardians of the Galaxy, like, right now?

So, on Tuesday night I went to see Marvel’s latest cinematic offering, Guardians of the Galaxy. I wasn’t actually sure what to expect from the film; I mean, I consider myself reasonably well-versed in much of the Marvel universe, but I had never heard of this franchise before.

‘Eh,’ I thought, ‘I enjoyed all the other Marvel films I’ve watched. Why not give this one  a go? Everyone’s saying good things about it.

Oh how glad I am that I saw it. It. Is. PHENOMENAL. A slightly sluggish start notwithstanding, it is an action-packed and HILARIOUS adventure across space. It really puts a sense of subversive joy back into science-fiction, a lovely roguey grime that few modern films have. The writing was spot-on, every performance was fantastic, and the CGI (while pretty much everywhere) was outstanding. read more

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee

Hola! I’ll keep this short and sweet, as I really should be in bed for work in a few hours, but also because I’m knackered! It’s been an awesomely fun week; I had a few days off to celebrate my birthday and one of my good pal’s birthdays, and much bbq was consumed. I think I’m getting my recipe for bbq sauce down pat!

Stuff to Love About Summer

As I very nearly forgot to upload the comic again, and it’s now very late indeed, I thought I’d just fill today’s post with some lovely stuff about summer! God knows we could all use a bit of positive thinking, what with conflict and aerial disasters happening left, right, and centre.

  • Long days
  • Pretty flowers
  • Prettier butterflies
  • Special bugs
  • The warm feel of sun-kissed earth under your feet
  • The coolness of the grass when you inevitably step on a REALLY hot bit of ground
  • Blue skies
  • Fluffy clouds
  • Actually being glad when it rains
  • The smell of barbecue wafting through the air
  • Being able to sit outside at a restaurant or cafe without freezing halfway to death
  • Justifiable ice-cream!

Proud to be at Pride

On Saturday, the Pride 2014 march travelled all around Glasgow city centre, celebrating and raising awareness of LGBT culture and issues everywhere. As you can probably tell, I’m a staunch supporter of LGBT rights, and this was the first time I’ve actually gotten involved in a march or anything. It was pretty awesome! There was a good, positive atmosphere as folk of all kind joined in. Most people were there to celebrate and show their support with friends, others were there protesting against the increasing commercialisation of Pride. read more

The horror… The horror…

Now that I’m back in Glasgow, and things are a little less stressful, I thought I’d start getting a head-start on the ol’ weight-loss before restarting Slimblog proper. To this end, I decided to hit the swimming pool.

My logic was thus; When you’re in the pool, you’re buoyed by the water, and you don’t get all hot and sweaty like when you go jogging. Plus, it’s also a full-body workout, so that can’t be a bad thing, right?

The majority of you lovely people out there don’t know me personally, but if you did, you’d probably know that I’m not massively keen on sports of any kind, least of all football (the soccer kind, but you knew that already).

I gave the world cup a good proper try this time. Right at the start, I said to myself: “Chris,” for ’tis my name, “We are going to try and actually watch the world cup. It’s culturally relevant and it’s important to lots of your friends, so why don’t we actually put in a little effort this time?” read more

Bleary-eyed again!

Due to a number of my projects colliding spectacularly, it’s now 1 AM again as I preload this comic! But y’know what, I don’t mind – This truly is what is meant by the phrase ‘suffer for your art’; If you’re not dedicating most of your runtime to your chosen artform(s), you’re either only doing it as a hobby, or you’ve got a hell of a lot more of a way to go than you think!

Aaaaaaanyways, I’d also like to congratulate my Aunt Karen, who completed the Greater Manchester Marathon this weekend in just under 5 hours. Well done on an amazing achievement! read more
