Hola everyone! How was your weekend? I had a great time, actually getting down to some work on my print projects. I mean, I love my friends and family, but every once in a while it’s nice to have time to oneself 😀
Anyway, time to start the ol’ work week. Thoroughly looking forward to my holiday at the end of the month, so prepare yourself for another Holiday Quest 😛

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well. It’s been another hectic weekend, getting stuff sorted for my fellow Gallus Geeks’ wedding, catching up with family, and generally reassembling the house so it looks like less of a pigsty.
On the plus side, I FINALLY got a video that I’ve been working on finished. For some reason, it took me ages to get the music sorted – I just couldn’t quite nail the ending, which was a bit frustrating considering it was just a bit of bland muzak to go behind a chopped-up video. But, I got there in the end, and hopefully you’ll enjoy it!
But at least I got the comic out!

Good news! My weekend wasn’t so horribly eaten up by Civ that you didn’t get a page today!
That’s not to say that Beyond Earth isn’t as addictive as its predecessors. It’s very much a game in the Civ V mould, which isn’t massively surprising – in fact, the entire premise of the game essentially screams Alpha Centauri on the Civ V engine.
Okay, those are the negative points. Let’s talk about the AWESOME STUFF!
The premise of the game is that you are in charge of a colony that, after Earth fails and is evacuated, lands on a suitable alien planet to begin life anew. You must contend with hostile alien wildlife, an often inhospitable landscape, and the conniving machinations of other colonies that are aiming to establish themselves on this new planet. The setting, as a whole, carries with it a mix of both sadness and genuine joyful curiosity, which makes each and every one of your rival colonies seem sympathetic – even the more warlike ones.
By the time you read this blog post, Sid Meier’s Civilisation: Beyond Earth will have been released.
And, like a chump, I didn’t book today off. Instead of getting lost in pure science-fiction fantasy, I’ll be processing organisation structures and redefining data… ’til five o’clock anyway. Then it’s Civ all the way! Aside from maybe a writing stop or two.
I love the Civilisation games. I’m not really all that good at strategy games, but I get a great amount of enjoyment from Civ. I particularly love the exploration phase – there’s nothing quite like the feeling of uncovering new terrain, and spotting new resources… and threats.
Among my five billion and thirty three point six other projects, I’ve been giving some thought to, at some distant point in the future, writing a one-act play.
Problem: the last time I was involved in a theatre production was about eight years ago now, I’ve never been involved with independent theatre, I’ve never written a play before, and between the comic, art class, and my newly burgeoning social life (I know, I was as shocked as you are!) I’m just not sure I can commit to an amateur dramatics group.
Whoopsy, it’s now 0134 as I upload this, and I have a meeting first thing tomorrow. Iiiii… should probably go to bed. Which is a shame, as I actually got a good night’s sleep last night, which allowed me to stay up late and finish this page… I’m convinced each page is actually taking me longer to complete now. Hopefully it’s because I’m investing more time in making the art better rather than me simply getting slower!

So, this weekend I had the chance to pick up my bass guitar again in the name of charity. In a combined high-school reunion and charity gig, we managed to raise over £700 for The Beatson Charity, a Scottish group that helps fund cancer treatment and more.
The event itself was excellent- in addition to some spectacular displays of generosity, it was absolutely fantastic to see some folks I hadn’t caught up with in over a decade. People seemed to be getting on with life pretty well, and I was genuinely happy to get hugs and handshakes from folks I used to be pretty damn close to.
So, this week I started an evening class at the Glasgow School of Art, a fine institution and a major part of Glasgow’s education scene. I decided to enrol in an acrylic painting class to really get to grips with some painting basics, and help me develop not just as a painter but as an artist in general.
It looks like it’s going to be a pretty awesome course! A professional artist coaches us, and we’re allowed to paint pretty much anything we want – he comes around periodically and gives us advice. I’ve already picked up a couple of tips that I’m going to practice this weekend, which I’m looking forward to.
Well chums, today’s the day.
By the time you read this, two important things will have happened.
1 – The webhost will have upgraded the MySQL server successfully, and without incident. Big sigh of relief there!
2 – We’ll know if Scotland has won its independence.
I may post something up later, when I’m awake and I see the news. I may not. You all know my stance on this, and you’ve seen arguments put up for the other side by my good pal Red9.
Whatever way this falls, whatever happens – We’ve lit a fire under Scotland, politically. People have been engaged and passionate about this unlike anything I’ve seen in my own voting career. We need to keep this passion and interest up.
