Oopsie, it’s 1AM and I’ve not prepared a proper rant!

So I’ll put out a request for information: Does anybody actually know the UK release date for the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition? I believe they’re out in the states already, and one would expect them to be released in time for Christmas.

I’ve been looking up and down t’internets for the last couple of weeks, and there’s not a massive amount of information available, and a lot that doesn’t seem particularly trustworthy. Like, I refuse to believe that Samsung would release it only to the one, maybe two retailers I’ve seen (neither of whom I’ve heard of), and many of which seem to be people who have mistakenly purchased the old Note 10.1 from the same sites I shop at and have been unable to purchase from. read more

Every week I’ll be updating the blog with news on how I’m doing, as well as discussions about the effectivenes of different techniques, the emotional and social aspects, and probably more than a few low-cal recipes I’ll be coming up with!

I need your help!

I, as the post title indicates, need your help!

As anyone who has seen a photo of me knows (which is probably not many of you, otherwise I WILL be asking questions), or has paid attention to these little rants of mine, I am not a slim fellow. It’s not for want of trying, of course; I have indeed tried to diet, or to exercise more in the past, but it always falls over after a while because the only person I have to account to is myself. Inevitably, I start comfort eating, or boredom eating again, and the exercise quota just falls by the wayside as I procrastinate and avoid having to do the work. read more

Tasty, tasty holidays.

Well, that was a fantastic trip to Hong Kong I just had, I’m missing my family already!

Shan’t spend too long typing up a follow-up post, as I returned to work today and I’m already shattered, despite sleeping for twelve hours on the plane yesterday warning. Perhaps on Monday I will regale you with tails of my visit, but for now I must away to bed, lest my forehead smash into my keyboard. Again.

How’re you enjoying Mei Wu so far? I think with the action picking up, it’ll really grow on people! read more

Multikulti – Woo!

Wai, lei ho!

Yeeeeah, it’s time to slowly turn up the Canto dial on this thing! Mei Wu is going to get progressively more Cantonese as the book, and books continue. Brace thyself 😛

I love being mixed-race. Even more, I love being mixed-culture. Okay, I grew up in Scotland for most of my life, but my Mum and the Chinese half of my family always made sure I kept in touch with my Chinese heritage.

This absolutely does not mean that I condone the culinary travesty that is Haggis Won Ton

*shudder* For me, being multicultural isn’t about meshing things together artificially, nor is it about keeping two spheres separate from each other. It’s just about… Living, really. Identifying with all your parts. It doesn’t necessarily mean flaunting it (although that mostly stems from the twin personally conservative cultures of being Cantonese and Scottish. It’s a wonder I have enough confidence to carry on doing this comic!) Anyone who tells you that you need to pick a culture and stick with it is a moron. And probably a bigot. But mostly a moron. read more

Posts of no real consequence!

Last week’s post was somewhat heavy, so I thought I’d intersperse it with something nice and light. And what’s lighter than…. Nothing?

If there’s one thing working my job is that it’s incredibly important to just wind down, and do absolutely nothing from time to time. So, let’s kick back and do not very much for a bit!

Iced coffee is nice. Not many people are keen on it, but I love it. I’m not talking about frappuccinos, I’m talking properly brewed coffee, chilled, nice and milky, cubes of ice. It makes for a fantastic summer drink. Why am I drinking it during Autumn? Trying to claw back some of the summer, I suppose! read more

Creativity vs. Creativity

I read an article recently. An article that amused me, dismayed me, and in general, made me think.

This article, to be precise. “TED Talks are lying to you.” In this article, the author lays into the modern creative industries, and bemoans the rise of the creative professional, the usage of stock creative heroes/aesops, and the idea that creators are being lead to falsely believe that they will be able to make a living through their creations.

Now, I will admit that the author writes proficiently. However, I have a major, MAJOR, problem with the conclusions that he draws. His contention is that creativity experts are, themselves, devoid of creativity and actively damaging to the notion of creativity in and of itself. read more

Mei Wu is here!

Hooray, the brand-spanking new work is here!

As a little bit of a break from Elf Blood, and in a bid to get some print work done, I’ve embarked on a little diversion here. Mei Wu is my loveletter to Chinese mythology, and centres around a society of fox spirits. The world of Mei Wu was two years in the making, based on discussions I’ve had with my aunt and my uncle, books I’ve read, and general making-stuff-up based on tradition, legend and other folklore!

Incidentally, the title is a pun (which I hope works as well as I think it does); nine-tailed fox spirits are known in Cantonese as Gau Mei Wu. However, I have replaced the word Mei (tail) for the word Mei (beautiful), which is also quite fitting as fox spirits took on the form of beautiful young women, and were often seductresses. read more
