Whoo boy! That took a wee while, didn’t it? Well, it could’ve been even longer, if I had implemented my original idea, it probably would have 😛 This is a pretty epic milestone for Elf Blood, and is a story I’ve been planning for quite some time, now. It’s also a bit of a turning point for the elves, but you’ll find out more on that as we crack on 🙂

Hope you enjoyed it, even if it did stretch on for a wee bit! Now, I’ve got a favour to ask of you all – I’m going to take a couple of weeks break from doing the full comic, as there’s a whole bunch of things I want and need to get completed for print and for competitions. Don’t worry, though! You’ll still get something each day you’d normally expect a comic – a sketch or something. And then, on Monday 6th of February, we kick off with a brand new action-packed Mei Wu! read more

The Eternal Battle

Hey everyone, just a quick one today – a little observation that, when people talk about battling mental illness, it’s almost a literalism. I’m alright, but I’ve spent most of today actively having to fight against a little surge in my low-self esteem. It’s not much fun having to constantly re-guide myself back towards the task at hand, actively straining against long stretches of fruitless introspection, painful reminiscing and ultimately self-pitying google searches. It stretches the day out and leaves me tired and emotionally drained, as I constantly dance between wanting to throw myself into my work or wanting to find someone to spill my guts to. read more

Political Carnage

The Paradox of the Creator

One of the oddest things about being a creator is that you’re driven to seek out conversation and companionship, while simultaneously trying to constantly return to some kind of individualistic hermithood, the solitude in which one can actually get things done. Nowhere is this more evident than in the festive season!

I love my family and friends, I really do, and I suppose this statement will potentially come off as being somewhat selfish and ungrateful – but I’m glad that all my social engagements are now concluded! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adored every minute I spent with them. I caught up with some people I haven’t seen in a long time, I’ve had some excellent laughs with others and I’ve made some brilliant memories with others yet still. read more

Who knew photography was so exhausting?

Hey everyone! Just a quick post today, as I’m still knackered from Monday’s Urban Exploration antics – I’ve never climbed my way through so much forest before. But it was so totally worth it! I’ll maybe share a few of my photos with you, once I’ve processed them.

Happy New Year Everybody!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a great celebration, whether you were with family, friends, or having a quiet one on your own!

Just going to leave a brief message here as I REALLY need to go pack my bag – going to do some photography and sketching today and I am WOEFULLY underprepared. Largely because I’ve spent the last two days eating far too much at my folks’ house and had to draw today’s page mostly in the last few hours 😛

The best time in the office

I thought working the stretch between Christmas and New Year might be a bit of a drag, but you know what? It’s not been bad at all – I’ve actually managed to get my own work done, which is a vanishing rarity nowadays!

Still, though, it’s time I could otherwise be spending writing or drawing, so we’re not quite there yet – I doubt I’ll ever be satisfied with an office job. Ultimately, it’s just not me. Here’s hoping 2017 brings even more progress for me, creatively! read more

Merry Christmas

My own plans? Tidy up the damn kitchen, and get the final page of my Horror Buffet anthology completed, and get my artistic output back on track.

Art feels goooood

Y’know, when I don’t get to deliver you comic pages on time, it really does get to me. I absolutely love doing the webcomic. It’s not just a practice piece to me, it’s a story that I’ve been working on for the best part of a decade now, with characters who are an integral part of my personality and psyche. And knowing that you guys are reading it really makes it all worthwhile, that I’ve been able to entertain you for so long!

After the annoyances and hassles of my day job the last week or two, it’s been great to just sit back down at my drawing board and crack on with the comic. It feels like getting back to being me, like I’ve been outside of myself for a while. I’m hoping my routine resets itself to normal until the next big disruption in February (and hopefully not sooner than that). I’m desperate to finish off the Horror Buffet shorts so I can get them to print and start attending conventions and whatnot next year – something I constantly tell myself, but never quite get round to. But I’ve got some real motivation now, with some great people, and I’ve got some successes under my belt now to shore up my confidence. read more

Huzzah!

Remember that article I illustrated on domestic abuse in refugee populations?

Well, it won an award! 😀 My most heartfelt congratulations to the journalists who wrote the hard-hitting and much-needed articles, Rebecca Omonira-Oyekanmi, Lyra McKee, and Karin Goodwin. The judge who presented the award was even kind enough to mention the illustrations, citing how they preserved the anonymity of the women who were brave enough to allow their stories to be told in the article, while preserving the core of their humanity. I’d like to thank and congratulate also the editors from the Ferret, Billy Briggs and Rachel Hamada, whose continuing work in the field of investigative journalism in and out of Scotland is going to prove vital in the near future to combat institutional spin and untruths. read more
